AZ Attorney General urges federal government to take action against spoof robocalls

State Attorney General Mark Brnovich is joining forces with dozens of attorney general across the nation to push the Federal Communications Commission to block illegal robocalls.

The FCC says scammers use invalid numbers and numbers whose owners have requested to be blocked.

Brnovich, along with other attorney generals, want a new law to allow phone providers to block the scammers' phone numbers themselves. Brnovich says complaints to his office about telephone scams has increased almost one-thousand percent the in last two years.

"Not every problem requires a government solution, but this is clearly an area where the federal government can act to help protect consumers from scam calls," said Brnovich.

Arizona signed this letter with attorneys general from Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
