PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Attorney General's Office has filed a consumer fraud lawsuit against a telemarketing company.
Publishers Service Office is alleged to have violated the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act by falsely claiming they're authorized by magazine publishers to charge or bill the consumers on behalf of the publisher.
The AG's Office says Publishers Service Office allegedly used an auto-dialer to place 48,000 telephone calls monthly in an attempt to sell new or renewed magazine subscriptions.
The suit alleges Publishers Service Office also allegedly misrepresented its geographical location on envelopes and invoices as being in California although it operated exclusively out of Arizona.
The suit requests Publishers Service Office pay consumer restitution, civil penalties and surrender all profits obtained from the alleged scam.
A call Monday to the company wasn't immediately returned.
