The circus has come to Lake Havasu City - and animals rights activists showed up to picket the event.

Today's News Herald reports local Havasu animal rights advocates Thursday presented their message against alleged animal cruelty by circus organizations in the form of picket signs and slogans outside of the event.

The protesters wanted to draw attention to the condition of animals at the Havasu Shrine Circus.

Protestors cite online videos of animal rights abuses performed by circus organizations worldwide, in which circus officials have allegedly used methods including torture in forcing animals to perform.

Havasu resident and protester Carolyn Long alleges exotic wild animals employed by circus organizations are beaten into submission, utilizing electric prods, metal bars, whips and other methods of intimidation to force animals to perform tricks.
