UPDATE: Man struck, killed while attempting to cross South Alvernon identified

UPDATE (1:14 p.m., April 8):

The man who was struck and killed while crossing South Alvernon Way near East 29th has been identified by Tucson Police as 36-year-old Joe Frank Trujillo.

According to a news release from TPD, Trujillo was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of Alvernon when he was struck by a Dodge Grand Caravan.

Trujillo was not in a marked or implied crosswalk when he was struck, the news release said.

Tucson Police determined the driver of the Caravan was not impaired at the time of the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.

South Alvernon Way is closed at East 29th Street in all directions, after a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured, according to Tucson Police.

TPD said the intersection will be closed for an extended period of time.

Commuters should find an alternate route.
