TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A southern Arizona teen has the chance to be named a 2016 Military Child of the Year.
Operation Homefront is a group dedicated to building strong and stable military families and today, the group named a Tucson military child among 90 semifinalists for the 2016 Military Child of the Year award.
Tristan Thomas is 15-years-old and has earned himself a spot as a semifinalist.
The awards recognize six young people to represent each branch of the military for their dedication to school, activities and volunteering.
Thomas said "It is always good to volunteer, always wanting to help others out and to keep busy."
The finalists will be presented their awards in April.
Each finalist will receive $10,000 and a laptop.
Operation Homefront President John I. Pray Jr. said, “The children in our military families are absolutely amazing and these Military Child of the Year semifinalists are extraordinary representatives of this very special segment of our society."
