A man was reunited with his dog six months after running away

Posted

Six months ago Shawn Dillon lost one of his best friends, Genie.

He remembers exactly what he was doing the last time he saw her. Dillon says while he was working in the backyard, Genie escaped through the front yard and was not seen again.

In the days after she had run away, Dillon says he tried looking for her through her microchip. When they looked her up the microchip had mistakenly been linked to another dog that had already died.

Months went by and Dillon says he was beginning to think Genie had died.

"In that area there's a lot of coyotes and a lot of people that drive fast down the roads and I kind of figured it was either coyote or someone hit her."

All that changed yesterday when Dillon received a call saying Genie had been found and was waiting for him at the Pima Animal Care Center.

"It was a pretty good moment. It was a pretty  bad day at work and it brightened up the day a bit."

Now, Genie and her father are back together again. If she could talk, who knows the stories she would tell.
