TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson Police Department is investigating a deadly pedestrian crash that happened near the southside on September 24.

Police have identified the pedestrian as 93-year-old Antonio Leyva Chavez.

TPD officers were called out to the area of 4700 block of South 6th Avenue for a report about a serious-injury crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Tucson Fire Department crews took Chavez to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives determined Chavez was crossing eastbound across 6th Avenue in the middle of the 4700 block.

Police say it was raining while Chavez was crossing and as he entered the northbound curb lane he was hit by blue Toyota Tacoma pickup truck.

There was no crosswalk and Chavez was about 90 feet north of the intersection.

The driver of the truck did stay on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Police say there were no signs of impairment nor was speed a factor in the crash.

No citations or charges have been issued as of now.

The investigation is still ongoing.
