TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Christmas came early for over 500 children at the 7th annual Bike in a Box Christmas event.
Elks Lodge invited underprivileged children who were selected from their school or support agency to receive a new bike.
Santa and Mrs.Claus arrived on a fire truck to give each child a brand new bike and helmet. The helmets were custom fitted to each child by volunteers from Tucson Medical Center.
The funds that were needed to purchase the bicycles for the children were from generous donation pledges made at a four hour Radio-Thon.
The bicycles will remain in the box so that the parents can assemble the bicycle with their child. Their hope is that this will promote the true Christmas spirit.
