TUCSON, Ariz. -- The 3rd Annual Veterans and First Responders 5K run happened at Naranja Park, Saturday morning.

The event is to help raise money for the Southern Arizona Veterans and First Responders Living Memorial that will be built in Naranja Park. The memorial will cost almost $2 million to build.

"There is nothing like this in Arizona,"said Community Group Executive Kay Williams. "That honors, pays respect, and more important, educates our young people about sacrifice, service, and integrity."

Hundreds of participants competed in three different runs, the 5k races, Memorial Mile, and a kids fun run.

The memorial will be a place anyone can go to visit and honor those who have served.
