PHOENIX (AP) - Three people are dead after Phoenix police say the car they were riding in was struck by another vehicle running a red light.
Police spokesman James Holmes says the collision happened around 2 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Indian School Road and 59th Avenue.
According to Holmes, an SUV failed to stop at a red traffic signal and collided with a Lexus passenger car.
Holmes says the three occupants, all adults, in the Lexus were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV was not injured but a passenger in that vehicle was taken to the hospital for pain in the midsection.
Holmes says the SUV driver is being evaluated for possible impairment.
The intersection will remain closed for several hours.
