COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — The Cochise County Sheriff's Office arrested two individuals Thursday who are connected to a fraudulent scheme that involves stolen checks.
CCSO say detectives were investigating the scheme of company checks, which were stolen from the Lawley Automotive Group. The checks were forged and then cashed at local banks Sierra Vista and Bisbee, and in Missouri.
A search warrant was issued for a Bisbee residence and a vehicle that was parked at Lawley Ford in Sierra Vista, according CCSO.
Items from both locations were recovered, and checks cashed before the search warrant totaled over $3,000. There were also over 30 uncashed checks that were recovered.
CCSO say Lawley employee 52-year-old Gloria Burton, and the son of Gloria 31-year-old Charles Burton were both arrested. Both were booked in the Cochise County Jail.
Gloria and Charles are facing charges of theft, fraud, forgery, and conspiracy.
Gloria posted bail a $20,000.00 bond. Charles remains in custody.
The investigation is still ongoing.
