A Glendale man was injured by his girlfriend while he was looking out for the interests of her unborn child.

Court records show that the boyfriend was stabbed in the shoulder after confronting his girlfriend for smoking marijuana, while being nine months pregnant.

Glendale police say that on June 6, they were called to an apartment complex near 43rd and Glendale avenues for a stabbing call. The woman, later identified as 31-year-old Nadachitanji Suma, would not let them into the home, so they had to enter through an upstairs window.

When inside they heard from the victim, who told them that he and Suma were arguing about her smoking marijuana, while being nine months pregnant. He said he went upstairs to pack and was planing to leave, when Suma allegedly threw something at him and then came at him with a steak knife in her hand. The victim reportedly pushed Suma away but she still managed to stab in the shoulder.

After dropping the knife, Suma allegedly scratched the victim on the neck leaving two cuts.

When questioned by police Suma reportedly told them she was defending herself and her unborn child.

Suma has been charged with aggravated assault.
