TUCSON, Ariz. - Dr. Gabriel Cousens is a published author who has hundreds of patients and his home-base? Just down the road in Patagonia, Arizona.

"I actually teach all over the world," says Dr. Cousens. "I see clients from 128 different countries and have taught in 40 different countries.

Dr. Cousin's practices holistic medicine and he says preventing something, like the coronavirus, really begins with physical, emotional, mental and *spiritual health.

"The more connected we to the divine, the research shows they have less depression, maybe 50 percent, and are generally healthier," says Cousens.

It’s not just about your mental state, though. Doctor Cousens says what we put into our bodies can have a big impact on our health. And there are two major players here:

"Zink blocks viral replication and it helps stop the virus from getting in,' says Cousens. "Vitamin D has shown 40-50 percent less respiratory disease and lower respiratory disease.'

Our bodies don’t store essential minerals like zinc, so what should we be looking for when it comes to fueling our bodies? Think: Red meat, shell fish, legumes and nuts. As for vitamin D, look for diets rich in fish, like salmon or sardines and egg yolks.

"Breathe, exercise, eat healthy organic food, be happy…the best you can, right," says Cousens. "We want to keep ourselves as healthy as possible, and that really is a total lifestyle approach."

But that doesn’t mean we ignore our overall health. Doctor Cousins says we need to remember that food or the mental state we’re in, doesn't make us bulletproof. And that government protocols, especially in a time of crisis, should be followed, regardless of food or lifestyle choices.
