Elementary students getting the chance to vote

Posted
The ballots are still being counted at Sewell Elementary School after students got the opportunity to vote for the next President of the United States.

From kindergarten to fifth grade, students made their voices heard today.

Teachers had the chance to teach about the process of voting, while students looked at the different candidates and analyzed the issues heading toward the elections.

"This was actually organized by a parent and they've been doing this at the school. I think the 2008 election was the first time they've done it. So it's a little bit of a tradition," said Rob Jewell, Principal.

"The community and the parents have been really supportive. I think it's really important that kids learn how to be good citizens and that's something that we value here at Sewell."

Kids Vote Arizona gives more than 200,000 students a chance to "vote" during presidential elections.
