TUCSON, Ariz. — A Border Patrol agent shot and injured a migrant near Lukeville Thursday evening, Customs and Border Protection says.
In a news release issued Friday, CBP says the incident happened at around 7:15 p.m. just east of Lukeville. The agent saw a person -- identified as a citizen of Russia -- crossing the border illegally and attempted to make an arrest, the news release said.
At that point, a "physical altercation" ensued and the agent shot the person, who was then taken to a Phoenix-area hospital by helicopter.
CBP says its Use of Force Incident Team and the FBI are investigating the incident.
