JAWS: 45TH ANNIVERSARY
Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster forever changed the box office landscape. His clever use of musical cues and show-but-don't-tell style of insinuating the menace of a man-eating shark stands as a masterwork of understated suspense. Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss lead the cast. Extras include a making-of featurette, deleted scenes and outtakes, set interviews and a featurette about the film's legacy.
TOKYO GODFATHERS
The 2003 Satoshi Kon anime, which retells the story of the 1948 John Ford film "3 Godfathers," gets a fresh 4K transfer. Three homeless people in Tokyo find a baby girl in a garbage dump on Christmas Eve and band together to find her a suitable home. Extras include featurettes on the making of the film, the animation process and the film's storylines, as well as Kon's short film, "Ohayo."
WATCHMEN: AN HBO LIMITED SERIES
A challenging and insightful follow-up to the famed Alan Moore graphic novel, the nine-hour miniseries is an inventive, intense and intellectually challenging saga. Issues such as tyranny, bigotry and sexuality are throughlines that emerge. Regina King, Jean Smart, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson and Jeremy Irons shore up the cast. Extras include background featurettes, notes from graphic novel artist Dave Gibbons and a slew of character breakdowns.
