Sierra Vista police have arrested a U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Huachuca for sexual conduct with a minor, according to a news release.
Alexander E. Smith, 27, was arrested Thursday following a seven-week long investigation by the Sierra Vista Police Department and the U.S Army Criminal Investigation Command on Fort Huachuca.
Police say the investigation started on June 8 when SVPD received an anonymous tip that Smith was involved in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.
Smith reportedly had met the girl through a church in Huachuca City and police say it is believed the relationship lasted over a year.
During that time, police say it is believed that Smith and the girl engaged in sexual conduct at least five times in Sierra Vista and on Fort Huachuca.
Smith has booked into Cochise County Jail for five counts of sexual conduct with a minor. His bond was set at $100,000
