TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - On one of the busiest travel days of the year, passengers departing from Tucson International Airport showed up early Wednesday.

There were long lines at check-in and people were lined up at security before they even opened. Airports recommend showing up about two hours before a flight and most passengers followed along Wednesday. Some were not letting leaving anything to chance.

"Well my flight isn't for another six-and-a-half hours," said University of Arizona student Zachary Bernal-Silva. "I wanted to make sure I was on time."

This holiday travel season also comes after the U.S. Department of State issued a worldwide travel alert in response to recent terrorist attacks overseas. Passengers did not seem too worried about the alert.

"Deep i your head you have that subconscious alert, but personally I'm not worried," said Bernal-Silva.

"If I were going overseas or one of the big cities I'd be concerned, but not today," said Barbara Carroll, headed to Sacramento to visit family.

During the busy travel days, like Wednesday, there are more police officers on duty at the airport. Chief of Public Safety, John Ivanhoff says says that is not in response to the alert.

"Not at all, it is a normal posture for us, both at this time, around Christmas, around the Gem Show," said Chief Ivanhoff.

When asked if passengers coming through Tucson had anything to worry about, Ivanhoff said definitely no.
