Man rescued after falling off rim of Oak Creek Canyon

Coconino County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of a man who had fallen 100 feet off the rim of Oak Creek Canyon from Harding Point, 15 miles south of Flagstaff Sunday.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, a DPS Ranger and crew located the man 100-200 feet below the rim of Oak Creek Canyon where an aerial technical rescue was performed.

The man was a 23-year-old from Chandler, AZ. He was treated cliff side for injuries related to the fall and packaged in a rescue suit for extraction. He was then transported to a local hospital.

Authorities say that there were 10 other individuals in the man's group who had been camping in the area. The group was hiking off trail when the man slipped and fell 30 feet, rolled, and then fell an additional 50 feet.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigating the incident.
