TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - On Martin Luther King Day some people in Tucson were thinking about more than the struggle for civil rights.  They were wondering what the new President will mean to them.

Monday’s Martin Luther King march began on a street named for Doctor King, and moved about three miles to Tucson's Reid Park---  for a celebration in Doctor King's honor.

But they worry about the impact of America's incoming President.

Hundreds of marchers made their way to the festival at Reid Park but recent events have made them uneasy.

There is a man who was not on the march and is not in the park here today who is still on a lot of minds.

Donald Trump was thousands of miles away, but still a presence in the minds of people worried he will degrade civil rights.

Congressmember Raul Grijalva told the crowd: “The Legacy of Doctor King is a living legacy.  We are it's product and we need to defend that."

Grijalva says things Trump said in the campaign, make people worry laws that protect civil rights could be rolled back.  Grijalva plans to spend inauguration day talking to constituents in Tucson but while he's skipping the inauguration he is not joining other lawmakers who question flat out whether Trump will be a legitimate President.

He says, “Legitimacy--- he's going to be President. Legitimacy will come from his comportment and how he carries this office.  And all indications are, at this point, if we continue with the same circus we had during the election that we're due for more division and more conflict."

Kevyn Ashley says he's worried about what the future may hold.

"He just does not care for anybody outside of for his family or his so-called friends, billionaires, millionaires."

But several people we talked to say they accept that Donald Trump will be the President and deserves the respect that should come with the office but they hope he will respect them as well.
