A community is coming together to remember Abril Castillo and her 12-year-old daughter Luisa after they were killed Tuesday afternoon when a semi-truck crashed into their car on westbound I-10.

It's been a rough couple of days for Ethan Steigerwald, as he remembers the moment he heard his dear friend Abril Castillo and her daughter tragically lost their lives.

Ethan says, this was the last thing he ever expected. Adding, "You wonder why someone so good and so great, especially a 12-year-old were taken from this earth. It just baffles me."

Over the course of a year, Ethan tells KGUN 9 that Castillo would come over for parties and to just hang out with him, his girlfriend and his step children who had grown close to Luisa.

He says Castillo was a vibrant woman and her energy was infectious.

"A very uplifting person, a great spirit. She just kind of knew what she wanted and she did a lot of things in the community what were very great," said Steigerwald.

Castillo was a photographer and was involved in multiple organizations throughout town.

"She captured a lot of people in Tucson. She captured a lot of music in Tucson. She was really involved in the community and I think that's the hardest part," said Steigerwald.

A crowd-funding page has been set up for Castillo and her daughter Luisa. If you would like to donate click here
