Full Flower Moon coming!

and last updated

The Full Moon in May is also called the Flower Moon, signifying all the wildflowers in bloom.

It will be officially full at 7:19 AM onTuesdayMay 29, 2018. It occurs when the sun and the moon are aligned on opposite sides of the earth.

Although the exact alignment happens during the day, the moon will still appear full when it rises that evening. And it may even appear full the night before.

According to the Farmer's Almanac, full moon names were first used during Native American and Colonial times to help track the seasons. May’s Full Moon was called the Full Flower Moon as well as Mother’s Moon, Milk Moon, and Corn Planting Moon.

The May Moon marked a time of increasing fertility, with temperatures warm enough for safely bearing young, a near end to late frosts, and plants in bloom.
