Whether it comes with a warning or dust or just poor quality the air in Pima County can bring risks for some people. But Pima Environmental Quality is always working hard to keep you and your family safe. But they need your help.
Driving motor vehicles is the single largest source of air pollution in Pima County, according to the Pima County Department of Environmental Quality’s Clean Air Program. That’s why DEQ is asking everyone to take a pledge to drive less for healthy air.
Carpooling, taking public transit, walking or riding a bike once a week instead of driving by yourself will reduce your contribution to air pollution and save you money. Additionally, you might win a $100 gift card.
The “Drive-Less” Pledge for Healthy Air must be taken by June 15 to be eligible for the prize drawing.
“The good news is that by skipping a trip just once a week you can single-handedly save more than 1,000 pounds of air pollution in one year,” said Beth Gorman, Pima County DEQ senior program manager. “We will also reap other benefits such as reducing congestion, saving money, meeting new neighbors and colleagues, and getting more exercise. As a whole, about 21,000,000 miles are driven in Pima County each day, so taking a ‘no-drive’ or ‘drive-less’ day will make a difference if we each take a turn during the week.”
