Cupping, Guasha and Tuina
Cupping, Guasha, and Tunia treat a variety of conditions. Cupping is done by placing glass cups that suction to the skin on certain parts of the body, typically the back, and the suction causes the muscles to open up and release heat and toxins and lactic acid built up. It also helps to stimulate circulation, encourage better digestion and break up mucus in the lungs. Cupping feels similar to a massage, you feel looser and more relaxed afterward. This can be done on children and adults and it is generally not painful, most patients enjoy the feeling.

Guasha is often done in combination with cupping. Guasha is where we use a special tool to scrape the skin while placing pressure on the muscle to help release blood stagnation and relieve tight muscles.

Tunia is [pounced ‘twee-nah’] is a hands-on body treatment that uses Chinese Taoist principles in an effort to bring the principles Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into balance. The practitioner may brush, knead, roll, press, and rub the areas between each of the joints, to open the body's chi and get the energy moving in the meridians and the muscles. Techniques may be gentle or quite firm.

Cupping, Guasha, and Tunia are great for:

  • Back pain and tension
  • Coughing
  • Respiratory congestion
  • Stress
  • Digestion Issues
  • Acne

Both cupping and guasha cause red marks on the body that will typically fade in 1-2 weeks. Please keep this in mind if you have a special event coming up and do not want red marks on your back or neck! Even though the body does get these red marks, the treatment is not generally painful and can be tailored to your pain level.
