The COVID-19 pandemic has meant sheltering in place, social distancing and wearing masks to protect ourselves, our families and our communities. And while these important actions helped save lives, there have been a number of troubling consequences that may add to the devastating toll of COVID-19 – chief among them a sharp drop in the number of preventative medical visits, as well as visits to help manage chronic health conditions like diabetes, cancer, heart disease and kidney disease.
In fact, a recent CDC survey [cdc.gov] found that 40% of adults in the U.S. have delayed or avoided medical treatment due to concerns about the pandemic – including 12% who avoided urgent or emergency care and 31% who avoided routine care.
