Wayne Brooks is the voice of the Tucson Rodeo

Posted
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - He's a friend of the cowboys and a friend of the fans.  Wayne Brooks is the voice of the Tucson Rodeo and is also an Arizona native.

"I remember sitting at the top of those grandstands as a little kid and thought 'man, that'd be so much fun.  That's something I'd love to do."

Brooks followed his childhood desire and spent his teenage years as a tradestock rider.

"I was the best three-second rider around but not eight, so realized I needed to give it up and do something else."

He wouldn't have to go for to do that 'something else.'

Wayne Brooks has made a living announcing his favorite sport and athletes, something he hardly considers a job.

"I'm probably the biggest fan out of all 9,000 people that we have out here today," Brooks admits.

But it's hard work.  Brooks prepares for two hours for every hour of rodeo he announces.  His talent and dedication have earned him four Rodeo Announcer of the Year awards.

And for the Prescott native who travels the Unites States announcing, there is nothing like the Tucson Rodeo.

"To get outside in the sunshine and feel the breeze on your skin is a wonderful thing too."
