McKenna and Madison Witt...the first ever recruits for U of A's then sand volleyball team. And yes, they're twins. “ "I mean we're the only girls who will have that personal experience, says Madison but I hope a lot of other girls are lucky enough to have what we had here.”
As the twin duo prepares for their final Pac-12 beach volleyball championships this week....“It's so bittersweet coming to the end here, says McKenna Witt. “We just finished senior day last weekend so it's been extremely emotional in a great way of course.”
The two will play a 5th year of volleyball at California Baptist University after finishing their time with Arizona, and go back to playing indoor volleyball, which they played prior to coming to Tucson. “We're going to be ball hogs. I'm going to be setting McKenna from the back row and forget about all our teammates!”
The two hope to make their way to southern California to practice with the pros, as the two idolize beach volleyball queen, Keri Walsh Jennings, who they met before even knowing they wanted to pursue beach volleyball. “I think Keri is everyone's idol”, says Madison. “We actually got to play her in one of the AVP tournaments.”
“We’re more built for the beach, we love the game, we're only learning more about the game. And we're still in the like very begging of our career which is so cool.”
The Pac 12 beach volleyball tournament starts on Thursday and can be seen on the Pac 12 network.
