This year marks the 40th anniversary of the movie Taxi Driver. These days, the movie would most likely be called "Uber Driver." In fact, Uber-based plotlines are taking the movie industry for a ride. Teresa Strasser has “Uber” storylines heading to a theater near you, with some Hollywood A-listers.

1.  Universal Pictures just struck a deal with Will Ferrell to produce and star in an upcoming movie where he'll play an Uber driver and naturally, his passenger will be a deranged escaped convict.

2.  20th Century Fox is "idea-sharing" with a similar story about the ride-sharing service. This one is called Stuber and the movie will follow Uber driver Stu, who picks up a grizzled cop working the most dangerous case of his career. Right now Stuber doesn't have any stars attached, but the script is ready to go.

3.  It's not just about movies, TV shows have gone from taxicab confession to taxicab recession! This season on HBO’s Girls, Hannah took a wild ride in a coffee truck after getting kicked off the Uber app, while Netflix's The Unbreakable, Kimmy Schmidt finally found steady work as an Uber driver.

Cabs aren't just getting phased out on the streets; they're also getting parked for good in the great garage of old school cinema!
