A wrong-way driver with a child in the car was stopped on I-10 near Ahwatukee early Friday morning.

According to Arizona Department of Public Safety, troopers received calls about a wrong-way driver on the eastbound off-ramp to Interstate 10 at Elliot Road around 1:30 a.m.

The driver reportedly self-corrected, but was involved in a minor collision with another car at the top of the ramp. No one was injured in the crash.

The driver of the other vehicle was able to take the key out of the wrong-way driver's ignition and wait for troopers to arrive.

Troopers learned that the driver was impaired at the time of the crash and arrested her for DUI.

A 3-year-old child was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident and was turned over to the biological father for care.

DPS says the driver will be charged with aggravated DUI (driving wrong-way) and aggravated DUI with a passenger under 15 years old.

"She was not booked due to a recent medical procedure and open surgical wound," DPS says.
