The early bird gets the worm, or the bill if you're planning on flying with Southwest Airlines.
Southwest Airlines is raising the price for its EarlyBird Check-In on certain flights. Many travelers tend to take advantage of the feature because it gives them a better boarding position in Southwest’s unique open seating system.
So, now the price will be raised from a flat $15 per person each way, to up to $20 or $25 depending on the length of the flight, and also the popularity of EarlyBird Check-In on the route.
At least you're still offered the complimentary pretzels and the free experience of skimming through the latest edition of the SkyMall magazine.
Southwest said in a statement, "We’re making this change so we can continue offering a product our customers love. Of course, an increase in the price of a product is rarely welcome news, but as EarlyBird increases in popularity, we want to protect the value it offers our customers.''
Southwest's EarlyBird service started in 2009 and only cost $10 at the time. It went up to $12.50 and then to $15 in 2016.
You can expect to see the new pricing on August 29.
