EL PASO, Texas (AP) - An Arizona man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for driving drunk last year in El Paso and causing a six-vehicle wreck that killed two people.

Forty-eight-year-old Sterling Ashcroft of Fountain Hills, Arizona, pleaded guilty Friday to four charges, including two counts of murder, and was later sentenced.

The El Paso Times reports (http://bit.ly/1UKHSp3 ) Ashcroft was driving on Interstate 10 in August 2014 when his pickup rear-ended a car, triggering a series of collisions as vehicles were slowing for traffic.

A 29-year-old man driving the car initially struck by Ashcroft and a 55-year-old woman who was a passenger in another car died at the scene.

Ashcroft has been in jail since his arrest following the wreck.
