The YWCA in Tucson held a panel discussion with members of the transgender community about transgender students in local schools Thursday evening.
Among the panelists were a transgender high school student, the parent of a transgender student, and the principal of an elementary school who has experience with transgender students.
Russell Toomey from the University of Arizona says advocates still have a long way to go.
Toomey says some ways schools can be inclusive of transgender students is by using the right pronouns and names and not separating students along gender lines.
