YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - The Yuma Police Department will purchase body-worn cameras for patrol officers thanks in part to a federal grant.

The Yuma Sun reports (http://bit.ly/2cCz1df ) that the police department announced Tuesday that it was awarded almost $105,000 in funding from the U.S. Department of Justice's "Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Grant" program.

Police Spokeswoman Sgt. Lori Franklin says the department will use the funds to establish a pilot program of officer field testing different models of body cameras. During this time the department will also create policies regarding the cameras.

The Yuma Police Department was one of 106 law enforcement agencies across the nation that received funding from the U.S. Department of Justice program this grant cycle.
