TUCSON, Ariz. — A woman was bitten by a javelina while walking her dog in the Catalina Foothills late Sunday night, the Arizona Game and Fish Department says.
The woman suffered a six-inch gash on her thigh and was treated at Northwest Hospital. Wildlife officials also recommended a rabies shot, as a precaution.
In a tweet about the incident, the AZGFD says javelina see dogs as coyotes and react instinctively. Anyone walking a dog who spots a javelina should head in the other direction, if possible.
