Deputies continue to search for thedriver involved in a hit and run crash Monday night.

Deputies and witnesses tell KGUN 9 a woman was riding a mountain bike in the northbound bike lane on Flowing Wells Road about 8:30 when a corvette hit her, knocking her off the bike.

Brad Newell, 21, was waiting at a bus stop across the street when he heard the crash and rushed to help the woman. “The guy came and realized he hit somebody and said he was going to call 911 and went back to his car and took off,” Newell said.

He and another man waited with the woman, who lay bleeding on the street, for deputies and paramedics arrived. “I stood in between her and the street and just kept pushing her back so no cars would hit her,” he explained.  “I was just making sure no one would hit her because nobody would stop.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office says the woman, believed to be in her 40’s, had serious injuries but they expect her to survive.
