CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is warning Pinal County residents who get water from Johnson Utilities to refrain from giving it to babies.
ADEQ says the water has high levels of nitrate in that area and that the company has not contacted the agency or responded to its inquiries regarding the issue.
The high nitrate levels were found in water samples collected on Oct 27 and Nov. 21. Providing the water to infants or using it in formula could be bad to their health.
ADEQ also says that boiling the water won't fix the problem because nitrates stay behind when water evaporates.
State officials say they don't know if Johnson Utilities is correcting the issue and is continuing to try to reach the company.
