TUCSON, Ariz. — Two Tucson men have been convicted of stealing a car from a local dealership and attempting to flee with it, according to the Pima County Attorney's Office.

One of the men, Richard Rivera, has pled guilty Solicitation to Commit Theft of Means of Transportation and will serve 18 months in prison.

The other man, Javier Rivera Cabrera, has been convicted by a jury of Theft of a Means of Transportation and Burglary in the Third Degree.

Per the Pima County Attorney's Office, on July 25 of 2017, Rivera drove Cabrera to the service area of a car dealership and Cabrera exited the vehicle. Cabrera then got into a truck that was at the dealership to be serviced, and drove it off the lot.

Rivera and Cabrera drove down the freeway together until officers pulled them over and conducted traffic stops. Rivera admitted his involvement and also that the two were planning to take the truck to someone who would drive it into Mexico.

Cabrera's sentencing is scheduled for April 12, 2019.
