The sound of smoke alarms Sunday night saved the lives of two people living in a midtown duplex.

The residents of the duplex were sleeping when the fire started but were awakened by the sound of the fire alarms and were able to make it out of the building safely.

Tucson fire crews responded to call that came in around 8:40 p.m. with a report of a dumpster fire near the 2200 block of N. Isabel.

When the crews arrived at the scene, the fire had escalated to a full-alarm house fire. Flames appeared to be coming from outside the residence near the water heater.

After the fire outside was knocked down, crews were able to contain the fire to a small area in the bathroom.

The fire was under control just after 8:55 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
