TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Unified School District has been short bus drivers for months.

The district said it is looking to fill 30-40 driver positions to help transport about 16,000 students on 236 routes a day.

To become a bus driver with the district, it takes five to six weeks of training, both in a classroom and driving.

This is a checklist of all the requirements:

TUSD bus driver and trainer Tracey Myers said all the training is important because of the safety of the students.

"In order to see our students safe, we want to make sure we get good people behind the wheel driving our students day to day," Myers said. "It is a lot of training, but that’s good, because once you go our there you know what you’re doing."
