TUCSON, Ariz. — TUCSON, Ariz. - The Tucson Unified Board is tackling budget transparency.
This comes after years of public scrutiny on possible mismanagement of funds.
The board voted 3 to 2 to make financial information more frequent, more relevant, and easier to understand.
The change calls for the audit committee to develop report formats that show exactly how revenue streams are spent, and how the district handles deficits.
For example, the 2018 budget reports the general fund threw off a nearly 9 million dollar deficit before other financial resources transferred in, and primarily the sale of property.
The same report shows the district ended the fiscal year with no cash in the general fund.
Adelita Grijalva and Kristel Foster voted against the change.
We'll continue to look into this and follow the developments.
