The Tucson Roadrunners are getting closer to hitting the ice. They are less than a month away from making their debut.

The minor league hockey team is set to play 68 games through next April.

The preparations at the TCC come as part of a $3.7 million dollar renovation through the Rio Nuevo Board.

Over the past few months, the team has finalized their front office, roster and worked on getting the merchandise ready for sale.

The Arizona Coyotes made the announcement about the team coming to Tucson back in May.

The team's CEO says the decision came after thousands of people were traveling from Tucson to Phoenix for Coyotes games every year.

Having the AHL team in Tucson is set to make it easier for the Coyotes to call up players to their team by having the minor league players close by.

Some key dates for the start of the season:

  • October 9, the team plays a red-and-white scrimmage
  • October 14, season opener at San Diego
  • October 26, home opener against Stockton
