TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The 62nd Tucson Gem and Mineral show wrapped up it's opening day today. The four day event brings out thousands of guests to see what this year has to offer.
The majority of pieces you'll find at the show can be summed up in one word--priceless.
Opening day of the show got off to a busy start, bringing out thousands of guests to the Tucson Convention Center. This year's theme is "Shades of Blue: Minerals of the World".
"Although there are many different chemical groups of minerals, every one of those groups, has something in it that's blue," said the show's exhibits chair, Peter Megaw.
The show displays everything from turquoise and aquamarine to one of the largest faceted sapphires in the world. The stone sports a solid 423-carats.
"A woman scorned decided it gave her bad memories of a cheating husband so she gave it to the Smithsonian," said Megaw.
Keeping up with the theme, other displays showed off some of most unique gems you can't find anywhere else. More than 150 exhibits from private collections and museums across the world show off the best glitz, glamor and shine they have to offer.
