Tucson Baptist church reacts to Texas mass shooting

Posted

A local Tucson church says they have taken steps to protect their churchgoers on the heels of the deadly Texas church shooting.

Tucson Baptist Church pastor, Matt Lozano says the tragedy in Texas is devastating.

The deadly Texas mass shooting took the lives of 26 people and injuring more than 20 Sunday morning.

Pastor Lozano says, mass shootings can happen anywhere - even in a place with love and faith.

"Our church realizes this is a reality," says Pastor Lozano.

With that, they have been prompted to take steps in protecting everyone that walks into Tucson Baptist.

A security team is on campus monitoring the area.

Staff at the Baptist church have undergone active shooter training drills as well as what to do if there are any bomb threats.

Lozano says, "it's important that churches know that this is a reality and we should take every action we can to protect."

While many people can't comprehend why anyone would commit something so evil in a church, Pastor Lozano says, "It's a question that is hard to answer. We don't know why things like this happen but we know there's a God in heaven. God isn't the one that is responsible for this, we are. We were created with a free will to choose right or wrong."
