Officers from the Tucson Police Department are investigating an early morning arson on the south side following a carport fire.
Police say shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to a report of multiple vehicles and a carport on fire at a complex in the 1600 block of West Midvale Village Drive, near South Midvale Park Road and West Drexel Road.

TFD extinguished the fire as officers evacuated nearby residents.
One resident says he woke up to the flames outside his window.
"We were up there in that window and we looked outside and it was like you just opened the over right here it was terrible," said Octabio Fimbres, a resident. "Nobody deserves to wake up to this."
Detectives say the fire is being worked as an arson with several thousands of dollars in damages.

Police say shortly before the fire began, two men in their twenties wearing plaid jackets were seen riding bicycles in the area.

No one is in custody at this time.
