On the day that would have been Gabriel Torres-Shelby's 1st birthday, a toy drive was held Saturday by his family at his memorial site.

Born one-year ago today, and passing away after a car accident April 10, 2018.

Saturday's toy drive started at 11:38 a.m., the time of his birth; and ended at 4:35 p.m., the time of his death.

"To celebrate my son's birthday, and to accept any gift or anything that people could stop by and drop off. We got quite a bit. We've got my wife's vehicle in the back of me, we got it all packed," said angel Shelby, Gabriel's father.

Family and friends woke up today in mourning, but also having the strength to do something amazing for other children.

"It was very tough waking up this morning and knowing it was my son's birthday and he's not here to celebrate it with us. But at the same time, the good deed that we're doing today for kids that are in need, foster kids, and ect. They're going to get gifts," said Shelby.

"We can't see our son smile but we can see other kids smile," said Clarissa Torres-Shelby, Gabriel's mother.

Gabriel's family is now left with this message pass on after their strategic accident, "Slow down."

"We'd just like to thank everyone that came by and donated. From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate it very much," said Shelby.

The family will donate the toys collected to Aviva Children's Services.
