Deputies from the Pima County Sheriff's Department are investigating after a mother was shot in the arm by her 2-year-old.
Deputy Cody Gress, a spokesman for the department, says the incident happened Monday morning in the 6700 block of West Copperwood Way.
Gress says the gun was unsecured and discharged as the mother was attempting to take it away from the child.
The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries that appear to be non-life-threatening.
Deputies say the child was able to get ahold of the gun because it was left on a counter where he could reach it.
It is not yet known if the parents of the child will face any charges.
