Rabies cases are on the rise in Cochise County this year after three skunks and five grey foxes tested positive.

According to the Cochise County Facebook page, the latest case involves a skunk that was attempting to attack a man in his yard.

Authorities are advising that all domestic pets be current on their rabies vaccination to minimize any outbreak.

The rabies virus is 100% preventable, according to the post.

Authorities advise that once infected, rabies is 100% fatal in both animals or humans once they become symptomatic of the disease.
