=PHOENIX (AP) - Democrats in Legislative District 26 have nominated an all-women slate of three candidates to fill the Arizona House seat vacated by recently appointed state Sen. Andrew Sherwood, a Tempe Democrat.
Sherwood was appointed earlier this month to replace a Democratic state senator from Tempe who resigned to take a new job in Nevada.
The Arizona Capitol Times reports (http://bit.ly/1SIeAWu ) that Democrats in the district have nominated Samantha Pstross, Athena Salman and Celeste Plumlee for the House seat, saying they have a unique opportunity to ensure the next lawmaker is a woman.
Roughly 60 percent of Arizona legislators are men.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will pick one of the three for the appointment.
The district includes parts of Mesa and Tempe.
