Sunnyside School District employees' private information accidently released

Employees of Sunnyside Unified School District had their private information released last Friday.

According to Dr. Debra Bergman, the Chief Human Resources Officer, an email was sent to all district employees with a spreadsheet containing confidential information.

The spreadsheet listed employees' name, social security number, home address, salary, hourly rate, length of employment, and district ID.

The mistake was caught within 20 minutes and IT staff worked to minimize the damage.

The error was made when a Human Resources employee sent an email to the Public Relations Department that contained information about how next years contract would be disseminated.

The HR employee accidently attached the document that had all the confidential information included and that was sent to all employees when the PR employee forwarded the email.

The IT Department disabled the email system so that no employee who had not already opened the email could open it.

IT is now working to break down the numbers to determine how many, if any, emails were forwarded.

Department heads were given information to help their employees reset their passwords so they could access their email.

When they opened their email, they were given information about what happened.

The District is offering free external assistance to ensure their security.
