It's already a primary offense to touch your phone while driving in Tucson and Pima County, but young drivers in other parts of the state will have to abide by a similar law.
Starting July 1, a new state law goes into effect for teen drivers.
Teens who have a "Class G" driver license are prohibited from using a cellphone while driving for the first six months they have their license or permit.
Officials say the purpose of the restriction is to start them off with better driving habits.
The restriction is a secondary enforcement, meaning teens would have to be pulled over for a different traffic violation in order for officers to fine them for this cellphone restriction.
